Buff Body of the Week: the Caps Red Rockers

The RED ROCKERS rock!
The Capitals Red Rockers teach a class at WSC.
(Photos Courtesy: Erin Kelleher
The Red Rockers are the official spirit squad of the Washington Capitals (that's code for NHL eye candy), and because these girls know how to do a serious workout, they are our latest Buff Body of Week (well, the collective body, anyways).

And just like their hockey playing counterparts, such as Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, the Caps Red Rockers must be in tip-top shape before each game.

Soooo.... they've teamed up with Washington Sports Clubs to host an exclusive class to teach all the single ladies (and some married ones, too) the hottest dance moves straight from the ice rink at Kettler Arena.

DC on Heels recently got EXCLUSIVE access to one of the classes at WSC's North Bethesda location. The 50-minute, fat-burning cardio workout is definitely a calorie burner, but the booty shakin' and hair flippin' make it well worth the sweat.

The high-impact workout includes choreography
from the Red Rockers dance routine.
A Red Rocker leads the group in a pre-workout stretch.
The class covers strength training, as well as cardio.
That's me, tryin' to get my Beyonce on... NOT!
If you're nice and do all of your push ups, they'll even
sign a few autographs at the end of the class.
The Red Rockers and the brave women who dared to flip
their hair and shake their booties in the name of fitness.
This class will be held once a month throughout the spring at various Washington Sports Clubs locations, including:
  • MARCH: Wednesday, 3/16 @ 7:30-8:30pm, WSC Chevy Chase
  • APRIL: Saturday, 4/9 @ 11am-12pm, WSC Fairfax
  • MAY: Tuesday, 5/10, 5:30pm-6:30pm, WSC Silver Spring
  • JUNE: Saturday, 6/18, 11am-12pm, WSC Gallery Place

Buff Body of the Week: Super Bowl Edition!

Are you ready for some football?!?!?!
Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers
VS.
Troy Palamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers
This week's Buff Body award comes down to a FACE OFF between two of the hottest bods of Super Bowl XLV

From the Midwest we have No. 52: Clay Matthews, a long-haired Thor-like demi-God linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. (Read "Beyond the Lustrous Hair" for more.)

Steelers fans, don't hate. For you we have No. 43: the island boy wonder known as Troy Polamalu. The safety for Pittsburgh's "Black & Yellow"  is so hot, that his lovely locks are insured for $1 million

So who's it gonna be? The blond hunk from the Packers...
The biceps are legit... 2 legit 2 quit!
... or the curly haired beef cake from the Steelers?
Now that's what I call the total package!
Who deserves the title of Buff Body of... SuperBowl XLV?

Post your comments below, Facebook message your choice or Tweet your pick to @dconheels! The results will be shared Monday on the MoJo show during the DC on Heels TV segment!

Buff Body of the Week: Kris Humphries

It's nothin' but net as reality mega star, Kim Kardashian bags another hottie!
Check out that bicep action on the left! A-maze-ing!
(Photo Courtesy Jeff Zelavansky, NY Post)
This week's Buff Body is none other than New Jersey Nets forward, Kris Humphries, who is the latest in a long line of rumored love interests of Kim Kardashian.
Kim Humphries? It has a nice ring to it.
That's right, the Queen of Twitter, who is 30 and lives in the Los Angeles area, has been spotted by various celeb chasers getting up-close and very personal with the 25-year-old NBA star, who's team is based more than 3,000 miles away from Kimmy K.'s hometown.

Ah, but maybe the two met while filming the New York-based reality spin off, "Kourtney and Kim Take New York!"?

Nevertheless, news of their romance comes with a bit of controversy because just a few weeks ago (Thanksgiving to be exact) Kim K. reportedly gave thanks to Halle Berry's baby daddy, Gabriel Aubry. She even brought Aubry to the Kardashian-Jenner Thanksgiving family dinner, according to New York Daily News.

But that was just a fling, according to various reports, nothing as serious as when she was with NOLA Saint (Who Dat?) Reggie Bush.

No word yet on whether Buff Body Humphries will last through the holidays, but just in case he doesn't, I would like to take this time to thank his mama and his daddy for a bod like that!

Entertainment Recap, Plus Buff Body of the Week is Back!

And one thing that we didn't get a chance to tell you about on the show was all of the Buff Bodies we found backstage at the 17th Annual the Knock Out Abuse gala.

Welcome to the gun show!
This fine piece of man candy is Richard Carvalho of Brandywine, Md. He manages an information technology firm by day and is a model by night.

In the photograph above, Carvalho has just finished oiling up before hitting the stage for the entertainment portion of the program.

Buff Body of the Week: Josh Duhamel

He's lean...

He's mean...

... and he's is in D.C. this week portraying a muscle-bound Transformer's machine!

[insert screaming teenage girls here
OK. That's Enough.

The actor, former model and certified organic Buff Body of the Week, Josh Duhamel, has been spotted strolling the streets of Georgetown this week with co-star Shia LeBeouf while filming Transformers 3 right here in our nation's capital.

Politico's Kiki Ryan gives her eye-witness account of "Duhamel Sightings" to CBS' Washington Unplugged... meanwhile the filming of the movie stirs up quite the commotion on the streets of Washington, even allegedly causing a car accident between the film's "car-star" Bumble Bee and an emergency response vehicle.

But don't blame the accident on Duhamel's head-turning hot bod. The Fergie-licious arm candy of the Black Eyed Peas front woman apparently had nothing to the with the two-car collision.

In fact, the only thing you can blame his Buff Body on is: long runs on the beach with his wife and running mate, Fergie.

And when it comes to his pecks... well, let's just say there's more than meets the eye.
[insert "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" here]

OK. That's Enough.

Buff Body of the Week: Anna Kournikova

Life after professional sports is proving to be not so bad for former tennis champ and Buff Body of the Week, Anna Kournikova.

Once ranked #1 doubles and #8 singles on the WTA Tour, Kournikova retired from the pro tennis circuit in 2003 due to injuries. But lately, she can be seen popping up everywhere from reality TV to racy magazine covers to children's tennis clinics in Washington, DC.

This month, the Russian femme fatale shows her American pride as a covergirl for Maxim magazine. Tonight, she'll be whipping people into shape on a special episode of NBC's The Biggest Loser.

And if it doesn't sound like she's busy enough, Kournikova also spends half of her time traveling the country with the Boys & Girls Club of America to mentor underprivileged youth on the game of tennis (see video below).

At the tennis camp featured in the video above, one kid asked Kournikova if she had any regrets, to which she replied: "I would have taken better care of my body."

As the first female Buff Body of the Week, Kournikova proves that life after a professional sports injury can still be rewarding. And there are many ways to plot a comeback, but she has opted to bounce back by giving back.

I think it was Maria Shriver who said, "The best thing you can do for yourself is to do something for somebody else." Kournikova is doing just that by giving back holding court with underprivileged kids.

Buff Body of the Week: Jason Cooper

I discovered this week's Buff Body while having Sunday Brunch...

jason_cooper_IMG_0276.jpg
... And it wasn't the French toast I was drooling over. It was Jason Cooper.

I met him while having brunch near Tivoli Triangle in Columbia Heights. I took notice when Cooper sneezed and his biceps bulged out of his shirt (apparently this is a natuaral phenomenon when your body is as ripped as his). Right then and there, I knew he was going to be my next Buff Body of the Week.

I approached Cooper and struck up a conversation. Turns out he's a native Washingtonian who just moved back to the D.C. area after spending some time down in Miami to pursue a career in modeling. He took the photo above 6 months ago and says he was about 3-5% body fat at the time.

OMG! What does a guy do to get in such "Calvin Klein underwear model" shape?!?! I sat down with Buff Body Cooper to find out:

Markette: When you were modeling in Miami, what was a typical day of exercise like for you?

Jason: On a typical day, I would wake up, have a small cup of coffee and get ready for cardio. Fifiteen minutes before, I would have a protein shake with 25g protein, and little to no fat or carbs. The idea was to get as close to "empty stomach" cardio as possible without going catabolic.

I would do 60 minutes of steady state cardio, most often biking or fast-walking on a sever incline (to save my knees). When doing as much cardio as I was, running was too taxing.

Then I would have my first meal, then my second, and then wait to digest. Two hours after my meal, I would lift. Immediately after lifting, I would consume 5g glutamine, and do another hour of cardio, then have my third meal.

The diet and exercise routine I was on allowed me to actually lose fat while gaining muscle. That is the holy grail of fitness.

IMG_0304.jpg
Markette: You said you were at like 3-5% body fat 6 months ago when these photos were taken? OMG! What was a typical lunch or dinner meal like for you back then?

Jason: Yeah, but my food was always the same, day in and day out.

I would have five whole food meals (in contrast to shakes) a day. The first four meals consisted of 60 (or more) grams of protein, 40g (or less) of complex carbs, and a fibrous vegetable.

My protein sources included chicken breast, turkey breast, tuna, lean fish and egg whites. Basically, any protein source that had little to no fat.

My carbs included brown rice, oats, grains, and sweet potato (but only after lifting andcardio). Basically, anything complex.

My vegetables included anything green and lacking in starch.

I weighed and measured all of my foods except for vegetables; I even measured the sauces I used. The rule for sauces was no more than 4g of carbohydrates and 1 gram of fat per meal.

To simplify things, my diet contained almost no fat, oil, sugars or simple carbs. The idea was that the only fat source available was that of my own body. This diet took several months of trial and error, and constant body-fat monitoring to achieve the ideal numbers for me.

Additionally, I didn't drink at all. For a long time.

Markette: You said you stopped modeling... what are you doing now to stay in shape (I noticed when you sneezed your biceps flexed somethin' crazy! You are obviously still in great shape :)

Jason: I stopped modeling because I didn't enjoy the lifestyle and since I am short (5'11") for conventional modeling, it was becoming to stressful. Now, I lift when I have time, do cardio when I want, and eat as healthy as I can.

The key is effort.

When I lift, I put a lot in to it. I am not as lean as I was, but I am also much stronger and bigger. I go out with my friends, I work, and I exercise.

The benefit of eating what and when I want is that it is conducive to gaining muscle. Alcohol, on the other hand, is HORRIBLE for fitness goals of any kind. The more serious one gets, the less they are able to drink and still achieve goals. There are always trade offs.

Markette: What is your ultimate career goal? I know you said Miami really wasn't your style. Where do you see yourself in 5 years and what would you like to be doing professionally?

Jason: I am preparing to go to grad school to pursue a career in mental health.

If things go they way I plan, then I will be on my way to starting a private practice in 5 years.

Markette: Well thank you Jason (for the interview and the eye candy :) and good luck with everything you pursue in life! I'll be rooting for you!

xoxo,

Markette

Buff Body of the Week: Redskins' Fred Davis

Are you ready for some football?!?!?!?

fred_davis_redskins.jpg
This week's Buff Body is none other than Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis. In the 2009 season, Davis stepped up his game as a backup tight end and special teams player to take over for injured teammate, Chris Cooley.

And No. 86 keeps his bulging muscles (see arm flex in photo above) under such tight wraps, that I couldn't find a single photo of him on the Internet shirtless and showing off his six pack... and I know it's under there! (See past Buff Body of the Week entries for reference).

I caught up with Davis and his teammate, Washington Redskins defensive end Jeremy Jarmon, at a tennis match at Kastles stadium where we talked a little football and discussed what fans can expect from the 'Skins' in the 2010 NFL season. Check it out:

No word yet on whether or not the controversial defensive tackle, Albert Haynesworth, will be in good enough shape to be next week's Buff Body... but hey, he's shown tremendous improvement in the past few days by passing his fitness test, so there's still a chance ;)

Buff Body of the Week: the Old Spice Guy

This week's Buff Body puts the "Spice" in Old Spice...

old_spice_isaiah_mustafa.jpg
His name is Isaiah Mustafa and can you believe that he was actually tending bar -- making gin & tonics for tips -- before hitting it big with this commercial:

Ha! I laugh every time I see that video; and even though my man doesn't find it funny, there are plenty of others who do. The commercial has garnered more than 15 million views on YouTube (as of July 23, 2010).

But just who is the so-called "Man Your Man Could Smell Like?"

Mustafa is a retired NFL wide receiver who had stints with the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans in the early 2000s before getting into acting.

He must have not managed his money right because People magazine reports that Mustafa was working as a bartender before hitting it big when his Old Spice commercial debuted during the Super Bowl.

Since then, he's undoubtedly the most popular guy in the deodorant aisle, making the inexpensive line of men's antiperspirant cool again.

Markette
